Start At A Reputable Dealer
One of the biggest necessities in buying a preowned vehicle is trust… both in the vehicle you’re buying but also in the person you are buying it from. To ensure you feel more comfortable during the entire transaction, we suggest starting your search with dealerships with a great reputation. You can start by asking friends and family who they’ve dealt with in the past to gather their experiences, both positive and negative, can be a great starting point but diving deeper into online reviews might tell you more. Reviews are there to help future customers know how past customers felt about their experience. No business is immune to getting a poor review from time to time from an unreasonable or unruly customer but if you are consistently reading about bad experiences from a specific dealership, buyer beware.
Check Out The Exterior
Before you grab the keys to take the prospective vehicle for a spin, take a cruise around the vehicle to check out the condition of the exterior. If everything feels good, now is the chance to take it out on the open road to see how it drives. Keep in mind how you’ll be using it day to day, such as city driving or freeway and adjust as needed to get a good feel for how it shifts or handles curves and hills. Be sure to take it far enough distance to experience how it handles in stop and go traffic, as well as at how it feels at higher speeds. Does it accelerate smoothly and is there enough power? Is the steering responsive and is it a smooth ride over bumps?
Try Out The Options
You may have options in mind when you set out car shopping and you’ll want to make sure the one you are test driving checks off all of the boxes. If it does, there may be more than what you are already decided were necessary. Once you are back on the lot, take a look at all the added bells and whistles to see if they are working and if needed… find out how they work. If the vehicle comes with an infotainment screen on the dash, can you access it safely while driving? Something that has become less a luxury but a safety feature is if there hands-free buttons on the steering wheel so you don’t have to take your hands off of it to change the radio or answer a call?
Decide If It’s Right For You
Now that you’ve spent some time driving the vehicle and inspecting the interior and exterior, you probably have a good idea if it’s the right vehicle for you. But buying a vehicle is a big investment and there’s no need to rush into it. Unless you know it’s the perfect fit, it’s ok to take a day or two to think about it.
